We’re sharing 7 worshipful Christmas songs here each week to prepare our hearts for Christmas.
May these songs greet us like a gift each day, allowing for meaningful moments to reflect upon the coming of Christ, the gift of Emmanuel, God with us.
Here are 7 songs, taking us from December 3rd – December 9th:
- Sun, December 3: Light of the World – Lauren Daigle
- Mon, December 4: When Hope Came Down – Kari Jobe
- Tue, December 5: Emmanuel (God with Us Forever) – Bryan & Katie Torwalt
- Wed, December 6: Prince of Heaven (Acoustic) – Hillsong
- Thu, December 7: O Come O Come Emmanuel – Kim Walker Smith
- Fri, December 8: Noel (Live) ft. Lauren Daigle – Chris Tomlin
- Sat, December 9: When I Think Upon Christmas – Hillsong Worship
I love Christmas. My heart desires to enter this season with intention and thoughtfulness. I want to protect against the hustle and rush that can overshadow why we celebrate and instead overwhelm the soul with to-do lists, shopping, and 8 events crammed into a short weekend.
The birth of Christ – the hope of salvation for the world – this is the greatest gift I could count.
What is a natural response of being given a gift? Thankfulness, gratitude.
So, what is the only response appropriate when we have been given The Greatest Gift? Authentic, reverent worship and adoration for our Savior born. Yes, Worship is not just music. It is the overflow and response of a heart truly thankful for its Savior.
As a worship leader at church and human being in need of grace, it’s not lost on me how hard it can be to prepare our hearts to enter into worship on an average Sunday morning or any day, really.
I think of my own mornings, all the logistics and scheduling it can take to get us from A to B. And then in this season of motherhood, the tantrums. The attitudes, the tiredness, the grumpiness. Some days the worry.
But we make the choice to quiet our inner dialogue, surrendering over thoughts, anxiety and insecurities and everything we’ve carried that week…and focus our attention instead on God.
We take time to remember Jesus’ birth and what his perfect life, death and resurrection meant for us — forgiveness, grace, abundant life. We stand in awe of this wonder and miracle. And our hearts respond with an overflow of thanksgiving and praise. And we have done it – we’ve entered into a place of authentic worship as a result of a thankful heart. We are softened enough to experience God’s presence and humble enough to receive His life-giving Word.
Daily, I resolve to quiet my own thoughts to seek God and worship Him. It’s a habit, it’s a practice and it’s intentional.
Preparing our hearts this Advent can be that way too. If your desire is to walk these days and weeks leading up to Christmas unrushed, resolve to remember and receive. If you haven’t been to church in ages but believe in your heart the miracle of Christ born, resolve daily to remember and receive. We resolve not to miss the Gift of Christmas.
That’s my hope with this post series: each worshipful Christmas song shared here, allowing us meaningful moments each day to reflect on the coming of Christ, the gift of Emmanuel, God with us.
May those moments be filled with wonder and authentic worship. And May God meet us there as we give him those minutes every day.
